The Chevrolet Corvette

The Chevrolet Convert has become an iconic car. Indeed, more than six decades have gone by but the Corvette has evolved with time since its humble beginnings since 1953 when the first model of the Covert was manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors.  Here is a little more of its history.

The Corvette was designed by Harley Earl in 1951 as General Motors's effort to enter the sports car market. The car was revealed in 1953 and its reception was amazing. It featured a new fiberglass body and beautiful lines. But the performance was not greatly improved until 1955. From then on, constant improvements helped the Corvette become known as a top performer. For instance, the 1967 Corvette could be obtained with a big block V8, 430 horse power engine.

The second generation Covettes also received a new couple form, independent rear suspension, and of course the more powerful engine options.

Third Generation Corvettes

Increased regulations, a struggling and gas price increases all contributed to a change in the third generation of Covettes, which featured decreased horse power. As a result, these Corvettes received mixed reviews as a result of the decreased performance.

Fourth and Fifth Generation Corvettes

In 1983, the Convert was redesigned entirely, featuring a more modern and sleeker design. In addition, the Corvette ZR1 was introduced and gained fame as a supercar. Such status was furthered as the C5 Corvettes were introduced in 1997.

Six Generation Corvettes

The six generation C6 Corvette, with its base engine at 430 horsepower and with the ZR1 at 638 horsepower, spell out not only world-class supercar but also incredible worldwide racing success!
