The history of Chevrolet begins with Louis Chevrolet, born in December 1878 in Switzerland. Louis was a song of a clockmaker, who, since a very young age, showed his great creativity. One of his first inventions was a pump that sped up the process of decanting wine from one barrel to another barrel. His pump worked flawlessly.

Through the years that followed, Chevrolet worked on a bicycle workshop, where he worked om improving cycle gear systems. In time, Chevrolet moved to New York. There he worked as a mechanic for the French car company De Dion-Bouton. He also worked as a mechanic for Fiat. Louis Chrevolet also then participated in motor car racing, in which he broke the 1 mile records. This brought Louis into contact with great entrepreneurial persons in the new automobile industry.

One of the individuals that Luois met was William C. Durant, the founder of General Motors. Together, they founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company in 1911.
